On 22 October, the PETNET Solutions team hosted a surprise visit from the International Atomic Energy Authority (IAEA).

While the main purpose of the IAEA visit was the ANSTO Opal Reactor, since PETNET Solutions is within the general precinct of the reactor, the facility was given a little surprise visit just to confirm the purpose of the facility was not in refining any Uranium or other transuranic elements. According to PETNET Solutions Production Team Leader, Sam Dent the IAEA staff were thoroughly polite and very interesting persons with whom to talk.

“As you can imagine they’ve visited a lot of very different places,” said Sam. The IAEA team went through the facility and took wipe tests on the main operational areas to confirm PETNET Solutions’ operational status.

“I am sure IAEA left us with a bit of a smile, but I had thoughts of what must happen in other places with a facility that is less than legitimate and lawful and what might happen when there is a visit from the friendly regulator,” Sam said. Thank goodness PETNET Solutions work on the right side of the regulations in all matters,” he added.
