The Royal North Shore (RNS) Hospital, Sydney has selected PETNET Solutions as its initial FDG supply partner. This exciting news follows the installation of the latest state-of-the art multimodality combination PET/CT scanner in the hospital’s Department of Nuclear Medicine. The RNS PET/CT features the most advanced diagnostic performance available in PET imaging today.
Located in a newly renovated, purpose-built facility on Level 2 of the main RNS hospital building, the Biograph mCT scanner is situated adjacent to the existing Radiology and Nuclear Medicine Departments for maximum integration into the hospital’s imaging and clinical infrastructure.
According to PETNET Solutions General Manager, John Hodder, the RNS FDG supply partnership is the first for the company and paves the way for a strong future collaboration with the hospital. “With our new state-of-the-art radiopharmaceutical production facility fully operational, PETNET Solutions feels confident and is committed to providing assured supply of FDG and other biomarkers to facilitate life-saving PET technology at the RNS,” said John.
The new PET/CT unit includes teaching and reporting facilities, off-line reviewing work stations, core staff offices and fully functional, stand-alone PET operation capability. The PET/CT scanner will also be available for research studies that have secured funding. The department has strong links with the local node of the National Imaging Facility at the University of Sydney and other researchers who use imaging.
RNS has long had an outstanding reputation in imaging and is the only public hospital in NSW to have a full-time research-dedicated 3T MRI scanner. RNS has recently installed new 64-slice CT and 3T clinical MRI scanners in the Radiology Department and new state-of- the-art linear accelerators (LINACs) in the Radiation Therapy Department, which is a designated IGRT (Image Guided Radiation Therapy) Centre of Excellence and Education Centre for the leading LINAC maker, Varian.
